The Antipolis (1977)

This fun shore dive is also great as a first wreck dive. The site is well protected from the wind and quite shallow. The Antipolis was a Greek oil tanker of almost 25 000 tons built in 1959. She was wrecked on 29 July 1977 while being towed to the breaker's yard together with the Romelia. You can see the engine parts, ladders & portholes of this wreck.

There is also a sunken bulldozer if that is your sort of thing. This is a protected marine reserve and crayfish are plentiful. There can be surge inside the wreck but otherwise the site is well protected on the landward side. Watch out for sharp metal objects.

Average depth: 10m

Maximum depth: 14m

How to get there:
The Antipolis is situated south of the white hotel at Oudekraal. You can see the top of the Antipolis sticking out above the water. Park on the seaward side of the road and kit up there. From here you can walk down to the water's edge and enter over the slippery, round boulders.
