| The
Aster was a retired east coast lobster catcher that was to be towed
in for scrap. She is 27m long and weighed 340 gross tonnes. It was
decided to sink her next to the Katsu Maru to extend the artificial
reef there. She was stripped and cleaned of her oil and a lot of
effort was made to make the Aster as diver friendly as possible.

All hatches and doors were removed to allow safe and easy access
for those experienced divers who want to enter the wreck. She was
finally sunk on 8 August 1998. It took her approximately 4 hours
to sink after two of her seacocks were pulled. Fortunately she came
to rest sitting upright on the sand quite close to the wreck of
the Katsu Maru. |
