The best time to dive False Bay is during winter when the prevailing north-westerly winds bring rain. The winds clean and flatten the sea as they blow offshore. There are quite a few sites suitable for shore dives since it is easy to reach most of the dive sites from land.

The water along this side of False Bay is (thankfully) always a bit warmer than that of the Atlantic. Temperatures range between 12C - 18C. The visibility is usually between 5 metres and 10 metres but when the south-easter has been blowing visibility decreases a lot.
