The Katsu Maru

The Katsu Maru lies in a protected position and is ideal for deeper dive training. This site, like most sites on the Atlantic, can be very cold - so be prepared. The Katsu Maru is an Oriental trawler that sank in the 1970's in Hout Bay. She is virually intact and lies on her starboard side with her bow pointing towards Chapman's Peak.

You definitely need to take a torch along for this dive to illuminate all the colourful sponges and invertebrates.

Average depth: 29m

Maximum depth: 32m on the sand.

How to get there:
The Katsu Maru lies in the middle of the mouth of Hout Bay. It is a short boat trip from Hout Bay harbour to the dive site.
