shore dives
The Cape Peninsula has some of the most breathtaking scenery in South Africa. The dive sites are often located next to spectacular drives along the mountains. If you want to do a shore dive it is definitely worth while to make a day of it and take your picnic basket along. That way you can have lunch (or breakfast) in between dives while soaking
up the beauty of the area. During summer, sites on the Atlantic usually have better visibility, although the water can be very cold. False Bay is usually better during winter and provides quite different scenery from the kelp forests of the Atlantic, with lots of colourful soft and hard coral.

wreck dives
The Cape Peninsula is also known as the Cape of Storms. There are a quite a few spectacular wreck dives to prove that this is not just a fanciful name. Ships have been sailing past this coastline since the 15th century and shipping casualties were frequent. The local wreck dive sites offer a variety of very old to quite modern wrecks.
Many of these sites are also accessible to open water qualified divers. One of these is the Maori, which is a very well preserved steamship. The Smitswinkel Bay wrecks are to be recommended for the more advanced divers who want to do some deeper diving. Whatever your choice, I hope you have great time exploring these bits of history.
