Welcome To Welgevonden Game Reserve, Waterberg, Limpopo
Welgevonden has grown to become one of South Africa’s premier privately held reserves. Ambitious game relocation efforts and careful ecological management have resulted in a reserve today that is home to the Lion, Leopard, Elephant, White Rhino, Cheetah, Wild Dog, Brown Hyena, 15 different types of buck, and 30 other species of mammal.

The Welgevonden bird checklist currently exceeds 280 birds and is increasing steadily. Welgevonden is currently in the process of dropping its fences with the neighbouring Marakele National Park and a neighbouring private reserve which will allow free traversing of game ultimately across approximately 150 000 hectares.
Climate
The climate of the Waterberg area can be described as warm temperate with three distinct seasons. From May to July it is dry with mean daily maximum and minimum temperatures of 22.3°C and 2.6°C respectively. Ground frosts occur regularly, particularly in low-lying areas.

From August to October, daily temperatures begin to rise, with mean daily maximum and minimum temperatures of 27.6 °C and 8.6°C respectively, and although generally dry, occasional thunderstorms develop. The annual wet season extends from November to April, with mean daily maximum and minimum temperatures of 29.3°C and 14.5°C respectively.
